讲座摘要
We empirically investigate the determinants of patented AI innovation and its effects on firm outcomes. AI innovations are predominantly produced by large, highly valued, and relatively young firms, which tend to finance such innovations through debt. Lever-aging a quasi-experimental approach based on patent examiner leniency, we discoverthat AI patents are related to increased valuation and risk, yet they do not significantlyenhance firm profitability in comparison to non-AI patents. AI patents are found tofoster substantial knowledge spillover; those issued to the same firm receive 47% moreforward citations than their non-AI counterparts within the same technological domain. However, the elevated investor valuation of patents citing AI innovation doesnot translate into profitability, indicating a potential “hype” surrounding AI technology.

Leo Liu，悉尼科技大学金融学助理教授，于2022年获得新南威尔士大学金融学博士学位。他的主要研究领域包括企业创新，产业组织，股权结构，以及CEO管理风格等。Leo Liu的多篇文章曾入选American Economic Association, American Finance Association, AIEA-NBER Conference, Chinese International Conference in Finance, Asian Bureau of Finance and Economic Research等国际一流会议。
